I remember when King City was built back in 1966. King City was created as a planned adult community. The city's legal restrictions forbid minors from living within its city limits for more than a short time. Not only minors were forbidden. I was under the impression that anyone younger than 50 was not welcome.

The Association of Interior Designers (ASID) points out today that the new buzz phrases are "age-restricted communities" geared toward "active adults", not necessarily retirees built for boomers.

Builders are setting aside big sections of projects, if not whole developments, for older baby boomers.
Take a look at the demographics, said Vernon McClure, president of the Home Building Association of Richmond. The number of empty- nester baby boomers will double in the next 10 years, he said.

Active adults want low maintenance living, first floor condos and walkable neighborhoods.

"This is about a change in lifestyle," said Don-ald O. Allen, owner of D.O. Allen Homes, whose company has built six communities in the Richmond metropolitan area that are targeted toward boomers.

"They can have a first-floor master suite and they can get rid of the lawn mowers, rakes and shovels, and someone will clean their windows once a year."

My question: What is the definition of active-adult? Does this qualify?

Meanwhile, Rasmussen reports that 44% of Americans consider the Beast a liberal and, 33% of Americans view it as a moderate while 7% believe it is politically conservative. Before the beast launched an effort to moderate perceptions of her political views, 51% believed that liberal was the right label for her political views.

Finally... according to Rasmussen, if the Beast runs for President in 2008, 30% of Americans say they would definitely vote for her and 36% would definitely vote against her.

Hillary Rodham wrote her Wellesley senior thesis on Saul Alinsky, her radical mentor. No known copy of this thesis is available on the Internet. In fact, Wellesley sealed the thesis in 1992.

This quote immediately came to mind after my reading of Hillary Rodham's Wellesley College senior thesis — a document kept under lock and key since the 1992 elections. Back then, when researchers and journalists were searching for information on the newly elected First Couple, Wellesley suddenly declared that it would seal the thesis of any graduate who became President or First Lady.

A few weeks ago, however, I came into possession of Hillary's suppressed thesis. In those 75 pages, the future First Lady reveals herself as someone steeped in the political lore and history of one of America's most political cities. No, not New York — Chicago. There she began her political journey from Goldwater girl to leftist icon.

The thesis' title, "There is Only the Fight ... An Analysis of the Alinsky Model," exposes Clinton's strong ideological attachment to her most influential mentor, Saul Alinsky.

Reading this work makes it clear why she had to remove it from public view, for Alinsky, who died in 1972, was a radical social activist who preached grass-roots organizing and intense, confrontational politics.

While Clinton was studying under Alinsky, he was preparing what would be his final and most important book: "Rules for Radicals," published less than two years after Hillary graduated from Wellesley and only one year before his death.

Alinsky's hold on Hillary is astonishingly evident in her thesis, which is replete with his yet-unpublished political tactics. The thesis reveals that he was moving from local organizing efforts to a new arena — the national stage.

She wrote: "His [Alinsky's] new aspect, national planning, derives from the necessity of entrusting social change to institutions, specifically the United States government."

Alinsky, we can now see, taught Hillary the political tactics that she successfully deployed in Arkansas and the White House and is now beginning to use in New York.

What were his lessons?

Alinsky defined "obtaining power" as a key tactic of organizing his "mass jujitsu." His formula for attack: "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it." This principle has become the essence of the Clinton rapid-response tactic and a key aspect of Hillary's attacks on what she has dubbed "a vast right-wing conspiracy."

The Clinton White House has adhered to Alinsky's rule that "ridicule is man's most potent weapon" and followed his advice to "let nothing get you off your target." Hillary discusses another Alinsky rule — "power is the very essence, the dynamo of life" — in her thesis. Clearly, she had absorbed his lesson that one must first obtain power to achieve real change.

But nowhere in her thesis — or in her later life — does she seem to recognize the classical liberal critique that the relentless pursuit of power is antithetical to democracy.

Perhaps the most prescient part of the thesis is a quote from a profile of Alinsky in The Economist: "His charm lies in his ability to commit himself completely to the people in the room with him. In a shrewd though subtle way, he often manipulates them while speaking directly to their experience."

Although her thesis was written several years before she cornered Bill Clinton in the Yale Law School library, Hillary had come to recognize the potential power of a man of exceptional charm.

Alinsky recognized the potential of his student and offered her a paying job to develop organizers for "mass power-based organizations." Hillary's thesis confirmed the offer and called it "tempting." But she decided law school was a better place to develop the skills necessary to effect the changes in government she has spent so much of her life trying to achieve.

Hillary's thesis received an A. So far, her political acumen in New York has yielded her at best a C-. But her story continues to unfold.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Sen. Hillary Clinton collapsed during an appearance here Monday before delivering a speech on Social Security.

Colleen DiPirro, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, told WBEN-AM radio that Clinton told the crowd she was feeling weak and had had a stomach virus. Clinton started to speak then collapsed, DiPirro told the radio station.

Clinton was scheduled to speak Monday at a Catholic college despite protests from anti-abortion groups and reluctance from the Catholic diocese. She was expected to discuss health care, not her pro-choice stance on abortion - the cause of the protesters' anger.

Several hundred people were waiting to hear that address. There were also hundreds of protesters waiting at the college.

Fundraisergate

Cattlegate, Filegate, Travelgate, Whitewatergate, Troopergate, Chinagate and Monicagate are just some of the scandals that have plagued the Clintons over the course of years. Now we have Fundraisergate, triggered by FEC false filings and a four-count indictment that stem from a Hollywood fundraiser for Hillary Clinton's 2000 senate campaign. And it's a scandal that will undoubtedly continue to haunt her.

Will this new scandal destroy Hillary Clinton's political career, which has been on an upward trajectory from the get-go? Well that remains to be seen. The question is whether Senator Clinton can be directly implicated in criminal wrongdoing. The Clintons always insulate themselves from prosecution by utilizing layers of minions to do their dirty work. To date, the Clintons have been astonishingly adroit at sidestepping disaster. Believe it or not, many Republicans are betting on Hillary Clinton to persevere. Not because they support her. In fact, they vehemently oppose her. It's really a testament to the keen political and legal capabilities of the Clintons that are widely acknowledged. Some Republicans jokingly liken the Clintons to Damien of the Omen series. Invariably, everyone surrounding Damien falls on their sword while the corrupt one continues onward.

Rosen charged with fudging numbers for 2000 Hollywood fundraiser

JANUARY 7--The finance director for Hillary Clinton's 2000 U.S. Senate campaign was indicted today on federal charges of filing bogus financial reports with the Federal Election Commission. According to the below indictment, David Rosen reported the false numbers in connection with a "Hollywood tribute" honoring Clinton. Investigators allege that a "wealthy individual" paid more than $1.1 million to underwrite the Clinton gala and that those payments were delivered through "several corporate entities controlled by him."

While that whopping sum should have been reported to the FEC as an "in-kind contribution," prosecutors charge that Rosen covered up the real source of the money, and even caused the creation of a fictitious $200,000 invoice to aid his scheme. The August 2000 fundraiser was billed as a "Hollywood Tribute to William Jefferson Clinton," though the funds raised went to his wife's campaign kitty. The bash was held as the Brentwood estate of radio mogul Ken Roberts.

While the so-called wealthy individual (referred to only as "C-1") is not named, he is clearly Peter Paul, an Internet entrepreneur who helped organize the bash. Clinton is not mentioned by name in the indictment,instead referred to only as "Senator A." The fundraiser was largely orchestrated by Aaron Tonken, a notorious L.A. con man who last August was sentenced to five years in prison following a guilty plea to a pair of fraud counts. The 39-year-old Tonken, who made his living defrauding donors and underwriters of charity events, now resides in the federal lockup in Taft, California, where he is scheduled to remain until April 2009.

In 1999, a survey of nearly 20,000 readers of the New York Post ranked Mrs. Clinton the sixth most evil person of the millennium.

Her husband, then-President Bill Clinton was ranked No. 2 on the evil list, second only to Adolf Hitler and way above mass-murdering Soviet leader Josef Stalin.

Hitler received 8.67 percent, or 1,664 votes, and Clinton received 8.47 percent, or 1,625, placing him well above mass-murdering Soviet leader Josef Stalin, who got 6.69 percent, or 1,284 votes. And Herself, came in sixth on the survey, with 3.99 percent and 765 votes.

Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Dr. Josef Mengele were offered up as choices, along with Saddam Hussein, Charles Manson, Idi Amin, Genghis Khan, Jeffrey Dahmer, Benito Mussolini, Ayatollah Khomeini, Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Ivan the Terrible, Fidel Castro, Vlad the Impaler, Timothy McVeigh and Marquis de Sade. Neither of the Clintons were among the choices - their names were written in, by respondents.

Ah, but that was then and this is now. The make-over has begun.

On this year's Gallup survey, Bill Clinton finished second to President George W. Bush for the most admired man.

Herself is now the most admired woman, edging out Oprah Winfrey.

Our good friend Mike over at Sworn Enemy reminds us of Clinton's pardon of billionare fugitive Marc Rich as B.J. was sliming his way out of the White House? Well, all the evidence isn't in yet, but it looks like Rich was up to his nose in the UN oil for food scam.

Rich, the fugitive Swiss-based commodities trader who received a controversial pardon from President Bill Clinton in January 2001, is a primary target of criminal probes under way in the U.S. attorney's office in New York and by Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, sources said.

"We think he was a major player in this — a central figure," a senior law-enforcement official told The Post.

Not only was he a major player, he seems to have been dealing directly with Saddam himself.

In January 2001, in the final hours his presidency, Clinton bypassed law-enforcement and intelligence agencies to wipe the books clean for Rich after being subjected to intense lobbying from former Israel Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Rich's jet-setting ex-wife, Denise, who donated more than $1 million to Democratic campaigns — including Sen. Hillary Rodham's first Senate race — along with an additional $450,000 to Clinton's library fund.

Investigators still do not know how recipients of the vouchers led to Rich, but say his relationship with Saddam goes back more than a decade.

A report by the House Government Reform Committee on Rich's clemency deal established that it was well known to the CIA and other U.S. law-enforcement agencies at the time of the pardon that Rich had been dealing with Saddam since the early 1990s — after the Persian Gulf War when Iraq was the subject of an international embargo.

The report, which relied on several classified briefings by the CIA, said Rich loaned money to the cash-strapped dictator in exchange for favorable treatment on oil prices at a later time.

Isn't that special.

NY Time's Fantasy

Reading Fantasy Politics over at The New York Times is like a preview of "welcome to my nightmare." A nightmare featuring a 2008 inauguaration of Hillary Clinton as president of the United States of America.

Could she really cast aside the baggage from years in the spotlight to become not merely the first senator since John F. Kennedy - or the first Northeasterner of any party since Mr. Kennedy - to be elected to the White House, but America's first woman president?

Think it can't happen?? Think again.

For many Democrats, certainly, she is the only personality, the only larger-than-life figure in the party with the drive, the ambition and the name recognition that might be able to lead the party out of the wilderness of political defeat.

Can she get the nomination? The Times reports:

In a Gallup poll taken in November after the election, 25 percent of respondents chose her as their preferred Democratic candidate; John Kerry came in second at 15 percent.

Welcome to my nightmare.
